A valve is used to shut off or control liquids or gases. By using valves, the flow rates in a pipeline can be precisely metered and safely sealed off from the environment. In principle, a closing part of valves is moved approximately parallel to the direction of flow of the fluid. The flow is interrupted by pressing the sealing surface of the closure part against a suitably shaped opening, the valve or seal seat.
